GRAND Mental Health in Tulsa set up its contingency management program to grant participants three points immediately upon completion of each session. Points translate into dollars that are available automatically on a reloadable debit VISA card provided by the program to the participants.

Optimizing Treatment Adherence with Rewards

About 70% of individuals in the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) at GRAND Mental Health in Tulsa, OK (GRAND Tulsa), stayed in treatment until completion after their leaders implemented CHESS Health’s Rewards module, part of its eRecovery solution. The Rewards module is integrated into and accessible in the Connections recovery app, allowing providers to quickly and easily administer a rewards program for individuals in recovery who complete assigned actions, such as attending group therapy or receiving a clean drug test.

A Need to Simplify Contingency Management

GRAND Tulsa set up its contingency management program to grant participants three points immediately upon completion of each session. Points translate into dollars that are available automatically on a reloadable debit VISA card provided by the program to the participants.

Before implementing CHESS Health’s Rewards module, GRAND Tulsa developed and deployed its own contingency management (CM) program, but it wasn’t successful. Leaning on previous successes with CHESS Health’s solutions, leaders at GRAND Tulsa decided to launch the CHESS Health contingency management program. According to Alicia Beard, operational director of GRAND Tulsa’s outpatient programs, the CHESS module simplified the program for the care providers and patients, leading to a dramatic turnaround in results. In addition, 70% of individuals receiving rewards stayed in treatment until completion, with a majority of them participating in the full 90-days.

Leveraging a statewide Program

GRAND Tulsa gained knowledge of these recovery tools as part of a statewide contract between the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (ODMHSAS) and CHESS Health to make prevention, outreach, and recovery support resources readily available to select providers across Oklahoma. Across GRAND Mental Health’s locations, the eRecovery solution is deployed enabling patients access to the Connections app to help reduce isolation, reinforce coping and recovery skills, and offer 24/7 support.
