CASA Family Resource Center Launches Platforms to Prevent the Onset of Substance Use Disorder and Support Individuals in Recovery

Solutions from CHESS Health screen patients for substance use and provides 24/7 peer support in New Mexico

Roswell, New Mexico, July 20, 2023 – CHESS Health, the leading provider of evidence-based digital health solutions for substance use disorder (SUD), announced today that CASA Family Resource Center, who provides family support, secondary prevention, intensive family support, and family reunification services, launched both ePrevention to prevent the onset of SUD and eRecovery to support individuals and families impacted by SUD. These resources are available to all in the State of New Mexico at no cost through sponsorship by the Behavioral Health Services Division.

Through their partnership with CHESS Health, CASA Family Resource Center provides individuals with two screeners to assess alcohol and drug use. Based on the individual’s answers, the tool will provide tailored tips, resources, encouragement, and the opportunity to self-refer to a healthcare provider for treatment, if applicable.

“Prevention is an essential component in combatting the substance use disorder crisis,” said Hans Morefield, CEO of CHESS Health. “Our ePrevention solution makes screening for SUD more accessible and more actionable.”

Individuals will also be offered the Connections app if appropriate based off their answers to the screening tools. The Connections app allows individuals struggling with a potential SUD to connect with others, access a team of certified peer recovery support specialists, and find robust digital tools 24 hours a day, seven days a week via their smartphones.

The Connections app helps individuals reduce isolation, build confidence, and adhere to a treatment and recovery plan. The peer recovery specialists available via the app all have lived experience and moderate online discussion groups to provide help for those looking for additional support for their long-term recovery.

“Our partnership with CHESS Health enables us to support individuals throughout their journey, day or night, no matter where they live,” said Doug Parsons, CASA Family Resource Center Director. “It brings the support directly to our clients to assist them in gaining the necessary access to recovery and support services that will help them achieve their personal goals of creating a healthier lifestyle for themselves.”

“It’s essential that recovery support reaches patients where they are,” said Morefield. “That means getting support tools like the Connections app in individuals’ hands as they leave treatment facilities, start outpatient care, or even pre-treatment. We’re proud to partner with the team at CASA Family Resource Center.”
