Addiction Professionals of North Carolina (APNC) Partners with CHESS Health to Support Addiction Recovery in North Carolina

APNC members gain access to evidence-based digital tools to combat the rising impact of Substance Use Disorder (SUD)

RALEIGH, NC, May 4, 2023 – Addiction Professionals of North Carolina – whose mission is to support North Carolina experts dedicated to substance use disorders – today announced a partnership with CHESS Health to support their members, communities, and individuals in combating addiction.  Through the agreement, APNC members will be introduced to CHESS Health’s evidence-based technology and service solutions to support treatment and recovery from SUD.

CHESS Health platforms blend digital tools with certified peer support to help increase critical access to personalized recovery resources for individuals with SUD, any time of the day or night, via smartphone.

CHESS Health’s eRecovery solution, which includes the Connections App, supports individuals in the days and nights between therapy sessions to reduce the risk of relapse. For example, a patient participating in weekly therapy sessions must wait 167 hours from one session to the next. eRecovery helps individuals manage risk moments―such as triggers, cravings, anxiety, and negative thinking―between visits to avoid relapse and remain in therapy.

In clinical trials and in provider implementations, individuals using the Connections app completed Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) treatment 20% more often and stayed in outpatient treatment 37 more days, on average. CHESS Health’s platform has contributed to individuals staying in treatment longer, reducing relapse risk factors, extending sobriety, and lowering the total cost of care.

“CHESS Health offers a solution that leverages modern technology without compromising local care networks,” said Sara Howe, CEO of APNC.  “In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, this is the kind of innovative tool needed to move the field forward in addressing the overdose epidemic. APNC is excited to partner with CHESS Health to provide 24/7 support to individuals in recovery without increasing the burden on the North Carolina workforce.”

“It’s essential that recovery support reach patients where they are,” said Hans Morefield, CEO of CHESS Health.  “That means getting support tools in individuals’ hands as they leave treatment facilities, start outpatient care, or even pre-treatment.  We’re proud to partner with APNC to bring these services to North Carolina, APNC member organizations, and to the individuals they serve.”
